When did what's "normal" become what's "right"?

I've always known that there is no such thing as normal. Nobody can hit average one hundred percent exactly in the middle. As human beings we all have inner and outer quirks that separate us from the next person. Therefore it is not possible to live a normal life, to do every single thing in a "normal" fashion. However, there is an outline in the world, among us people, of what we think normal is. What the majority of people look like, say or do is regarded as what I've recently come to observe, correct.

This hits me in the face as something really stupid but very accepted among us all. Would I be right in saying that when you hear something you think or do, a feature of your appearance being called normal that you feel better? That you instantly think you've received a clarification that this certain thing is OK to keep? More than likely you do. I have and I've watched other people react the same. But what I want to state is that surely just because a majority do something doesn't mean its correct. A certain action or attitude is not deemed right just because its been normal practice for generations.

One example that I would like to use is the practice of eating animals. I think we can all agree that eating meat and animal products is a very normal thing to do. I believe that because it is so normal and accepted on a widespread level, that people don't question whether its right or wrong. There's a certain guarantee involved in knowing the people around you are doing the same thing. However, most of us upon deep or not so deep reflection would realise that torturing, killing and eating animals is a cruel thing to do. What worries me though is that our creation of a thought called "normality" is more than capable to suppress what we believe to be right.

And its evident everywhere,So many teenagers take drugs, have sex and drink much too much alcohol than what they know is right for their own body, mind and soul and yet because its normal for their peers to do, they do it anyway. Its normal for us to argue a certain way by raising our voices and becoming defensive, its normal to be self conscious, its normal to be negative, its normal not to question authority, its normal to judge and categorize other people but does that mean any of these are right

You see, I've learned that people don't like change, they don't like the unfamiliar. Obviously there are those that do but in general there are so many people that don't like it. Moreover most people are too fearful to try and change the world in some way either minor or major. So humans have taken the easy route by adapting to the world and its traditions, acquiring knowledge subconsciously on how to be as normal as possible. However change is necessary for the world at present. We cannot continue allowing poverty to be normal, accepting the corruption in politics, thinking that there are always going to be lost causes in the world in the form of "evil people", and contributing to the poison that is stereotypes and expectations of how a person should act, what they should say. We need to remove the limit on what we find comfortable and embrace the unfamiliar because we simply need to allow what's fair, just and overall right to take over the world through people's motives. Just because something's normal now doesn't mean its always going to be and we need to come to terms with the fact that change is very possible.

Change is out there for you to make and if you live a life where you always try your best to do what is fair and just then you cannot go wrong. Forget normality because you'll never achieve it as it is ever changing and not real. What is real however, is the injustice that is in the world and the power you have to change that.

Sometimes, you're just going to have to pick between being normal and being right.

Quotations Sunday: Perceived Perfection

I observed a face book status yesterday evening, addressing the images of girls on weheartit and their ability to "depress" us inferior females. If you are not familiar with this website packed with a mixture of beautiful yet  ridiculously idealistic pictures of all things gorgeous in life, be warned that before you type in the URL, make sure to conjure a sufficiently high self -esteem.
The reason I entitled this Quotations Sunday "Perceived Perfection" is because I think we all have this idea that the grass is always greener on the other side or that other people are more perfect than us. (By Perfect, I'm referring to "traditional perfection", the complete and utter illusion which humans have created during their time here) And what's funny is that we use the word all the time, have a clear image of what the perfect legs, hair, personality etc are and yet there is no such thing as perfection as we know it. Nobody can be traditionally perfect every second of every day.

Who takes these pictures????

And yes, on first glance, the ignorant depression kicks in as we look and realise they are counted as more perfect/ more attractive than you or me. However we must revert back to our wise quote which states that the reason we feel these insecurities when we see models in magazines and online is because we've seen ourselves at our "worst". We've seen ourselves after eating 4 bags of M&M's, in Penney's Christmas pyjamas with greasy hair and plonked in front of the TV. We've never seen these models at their worst or anywhere near it. We've only seen their "highlight reels" yet we illogically compare our "behind the scenes" if you will to their best takes. Why do our we do this?

Even more so, we can't trust everything the media shows us. Their aim is to sell, its a business and therefore has no emotions or conscience. It doesn't care how insecure you become once you buy that yellow bikini, fake tan or those jeans. So why try and please something so emotionless? Don't lose your intelligence which you were born with to fall for their tricks including photo shop, lighting and other technological facilities I don't understand! You were born to question things, its something buried in all of us so let's question perfection as its perceived in our minds. If you ponder a little bit you'll discover that the only reason you want a flat stomach or a six pack is because someone else told you it was good, it was liked, it was perfect. What's even more important to discover is that you wouldn't be a fraction as insecure if you saw the behind the scenes of all the perfect people out there, if their photographs were taken using a crappy phone quality camera and if it wasn't ingrained in you that there was an image and characteristics to perfection and that only a select few can possess them.

All in all,  I hope you can realise that being a perfectionist will only lead to unhappiness and take away from the beauty of life. I really don't know why human beings decided to introduce the idea of perfection into the world and its brain. I doubt animals or plants know of it. However, if it was composed by people, it can be destroyed by people. Let's start with ourselves, accept that the media will never allow you to be perfect on its terms, it'll keep changing and besides wouldn't it genuinely be boring to be perfect? I mean really think about it.......I wouldn't pick it.

So cheer up, you are beautiful! And before you dismiss this statement, think about where the denial is coming from. When you find the source(s) you will realize that they're pretty stupid!

Vegetarianism

Now before anyone becomes alarmed and locks the door to their mind, I just want to make it clear that I am not going to go all 'scary veggie' on you guys.;) In this post I simply want to deliver my point of view on a topic I think a lot of people are ignorant of.
I decided to become a vegetarian in the new year after I watched a video on peta.org that really, really upset me. It was about animal testing and was called "Testing, 1,2,3" or something along those lines.  I had always thought about becoming a vegetarian but had no motivation to actually start altering my diet. That was the trigger.
So I've not eaten meat since New year's eve to be exact and I feel great! Initially I felt weak in the first few weeks but the dietitian I went to said it was just the change of diet. I do recommend going to a dietitian if you plan on going vegetarian as you can't really trust everything you read online. As regards the health side of things, I'm going to get a blood test done in summer to check if my iron levels/ protein levels are alright but I feel totally fine so I doubt there'll be any problems! In fact, I feel much healthier as its obviously forced me to eat more fruit and veg which I wasn't doing before and I've realized that I like a lot more than I thought. I also love, love, love the 'Linda McCartney'  vegetarian line. Her meat products genuinely taste like meat but better! I'm not in denial or lying, you need to try them! They can be found in supermarkets so they're not hard to find either.
I've faced a lot of opposition to my decision to stop eating meat. I was actually very surprised to realize that  a lot of people are against it. That is one thing I don't understand. I have not even tried to put my point across on why I believe in Vegetarianism let alone become aggressive towards them, yet the reasons I'm accumulated from meat eaters as to why they dislike vegetarians/ believe in eating animals are (a) they think that vegetarians are going to force their way of eating on them (b) they get the impression vegetarians think that they're better than meat eaters (c) they believe animals are lower in the food chain (d) they love meat.
I respect the final two reasons as your own choice and opinion but the first two are complete generalizations. Regardless, I think it should be a little more respected and I feel that people should put more thought into their choice to eat meat. Just because its normal doesn't mean its right for you.

This famous quote by Paul McCartney is one I agree with. We don't know half of what cruelty is poured on these animals. And I'm not blaming you, it should be more publicly known.Paul McCartney's video in relation to the topic is really eye-opening and I recommend watching it.
So essentially all, I just wanted to inform ye that Vegetarianism is definitely not life-changing and if you're like me, who just ate meat for convenience, then I suggest giving it a try. There's also no point in getting sandwiches in restaurants with meat and then taking the meat out without eating it because that still creates a demand for the meat. I know I sound paranoid but doesn't it make sense to try and reduce as many animals who get tortured and murdered as possible? The links I've provided will give you more information on something that's very hidden and underground. Take what you will from them.

Answer in the comment section below:
Do you eat meat? If so, what are your reasons for it? I'd love to know!
